The Body Compass
The day I remembered my body already knows
𖤓 Welcome to The Illuminated Path 𖤓
I’m Jen, and each week I translate the language of the cosmos into something you can actually feel and use. I track the Human Design gates, the Gene Keys, animal archetypes, and the stars - so you can move with the energy instead of against it.
A few ways to go deeper this season:
🜁 Join the Ayllu - the paid community where we go much deeper every week
🜃 Sacred Wild Oracle Deck - meet the animals guiding this forecast
🜄 Guided Experiences - work with me 1:1
🜂 Retreat - five immersive days in the desert of Taos, intimate circle, evolving canvas

I saw something recently that I keep thinking about.
It was a list mapping feelings to locations in the body.
Fear lives in the chest,
intuition in the stomach,
anger in the head,
anxiety in the muscles,
shame in the face.
And something in me said, “yes, and”, because the body is not a checklist. It doesn’t hand you a label and send you on your way. It speaks in textures and pulses and sensations that shift the moment you actually turn toward them, and the location of a feeling is not the destination. It’s the first doorway.
Where you feel it matters
Your body speaks before your mind understands, and it doesn’t wait for you to be ready. It sends a tightness, a drop, a heat that rises without warning, a holding so old you’ve stopped noticing it. These are not problems to fix. They are messages waiting for you to turn around.
Here’s what I’ve come to feel into over time, offered not as a map but as a starting place. The chest carries fear, or sometimes just the weight of everything you’ve been holding without putting down. The stomach holds intuition, that quiet knowing something is off before you can explain why. The head fills with anger, or with thoughts that keep circling because they have nowhere to land. Muscles store anxiety, emotion that got lodged in the body instead of moved through it. The face holds shame, that tender raw feeling of being seen without any armor on. Throat carries truth that doesn’t feel safe to speak yet. And then there’s the diffuse everywhere-and-nowhere feeling, when something wants your attention but hasn’t shown you where to look yet.
This isn’t about memorizing meanings. It’s about learning the language.
Try this
The next time something rises in your body, before you analyze it or explain it away, pause and close your eyes and ask yourself one question: where do I feel this? Place your hand there, and then draw it — not what you think it looks like, but what it actually feels like from the inside. Is it sharp or heavy, swirling or tight, cracking open or pressing in? Let your pen follow the sensation without needing to produce anything worth showing anyone. Just contact between you and what’s alive in you right now.
This is where something shifts
When you draw the feeling you are no longer trapped inside it with no way out. You are in relationship with it, and that changes everything. The body softens, the breath finds more room, and what was stuck begins to move in a way that analysis never quite manages to unlock. What was loud begins to speak in a register you can actually hear.
You don’t have to force clarity. Your body has been fluent in this language your whole life, and you’re just remembering how to listen.
If you want to go deeper with this practice, my Lifelines booklet walks you through it. It’s a simple, beautiful way to use drawing as a tool for moving emotion through the body and alchemizing what you find there. You can download it here. You can download it here.
I’ve been calling this the Body Compass, not because it tells you where to go but because it shows you where you actually are. And that’s where every real movement begins.
What did your body say when you let it draw? I’d love to hear what came through.
